Evaluations of recent Voyager episodes

Since the last I wrote you, there have been 2 new episodes of Star Trek: Voyager, here's my evaluation of them.

Fair Haven

Continuum Evaluation.

An interesting hologram based episode, The ever hologram tinkering Ensign Paris has been hard at work once again creating a new holographic diversion known as Fair Haven, a depiction of an 19th century village in Ireland. Voyager starts approaching a large wavefront of a cosmic storm that gives Voyager some bumps that are remeniscient of a sailing ship, to get passed the depression of the storm, the Captain creates an "open door" policy on Fair Haven, leaving it operational 24 hours a day for the crew to enjoy. In the little Irish port, Captain Janeway meets a hologram called Michael who she decided wasn't perfect the way it was, so she made a few "modifications" such as making him taller, giving him a better education, and eliminating his wife. She cannot help but be smitten by her newly modified bo, but later finds that the fact that she can simply change him whenever she finds inadequacies to be something undesirable in a relationship, so she runs. Well in the process of trying to get out of the storm secondary systems suffer, including the holomatrix of Fair Haven, after coming out of the storm Kim and Paris find that they can only save about 10% of Fair Haven and will have to rebuild the rest from scratch. Well, the Captain makes one more modification to Michael and requests that he be included in the 10% saved, the last modification being that she be denied the ability to make any further changes to Michael's subroutines.

Blink of an Eye

A very unusual time based episode in which Voyager gets trapped in a gravity well near a planet with a tacheon poll instead of magnetic poll like Earth has, Anyway, Voyager becomes the planet's 3rd poll and causes a temporal varience that causes about a day on the planet to go by for every second on Voyager. As such Voyager sees the civilization evolve from caveman to technology that surpasses their own in a matter of days. One of the most interesting developments was when they sent the doctor down to learn a little more about them. Anyway the doc is lost and they cannot beam him back after 3 seconds as they originally planned, when they finally do get the doc back, 3 years have gone by for him (which was only 18.25 minutes for Voyager). Eventually, with the aid of an astronaut who came from the surface in a pod was able to return 50 years later (a mear 5.06944 hours later Voyager time) and convince them that the earthquakes that Voyager's presence had caused for millennia were accidental and even the evolving technology on the planet, after surpassing Voyager's own, was able to push Voyager away from the planet, stopping the quakes and allowing Voyager to continue on it's course towards home, a very good episode, I must say I think the writers are finally getting better at coming up with interesting stories in this season.

I look forward to next week when the holodoc becomes a Rock Star according to the continuum, it should be a hilarious episode.

A Thank You

Now at the beginning of a new year I'd like to extend a thank you to all the members in the SubspaceLink who have taken on SubspaceLink responsibilities, so here they are, the list of people who currently hold SubspaceLink jobs:

Admiral Chris Scott

Starfleet Intelligence, Head of Paramount Research Devision

ADMScott@SubspaceLink.com

Admiral Scott has gotten some of our articles this year for the SubspaceLink newsletter which came from his newsletter, TheCollective, and is a member of the SubspaceLink site network. Check out his website at http://thecollective.SubspaceLink.com/

Admiral Roy Veldman

Commanding Officer of Starbase 49

ADMVeldman@SubspaceLink.com

Admiral Veldman runs the other site in the subspacelink site network triad and has helped me a lot with my efforts on Treklog and runs a very nice site that makes you believe you really are walking through the halls on his Starbase. Check out the Starbase at http://www.Starbase49.com/ (or http://Starbase49.SubspaceLink.com/)

Captain Shirley Massey

Chat room maintenance

CaptMassey@SubspaceLink.com

Captain Massey has run a few of our SubspaceLink online chats and has been known to frequent the SubspaceLink chat room even when I wasn't there.

Captain WAZA

Webring Management

CaptWAZA@SubspaceLink.com

Captain WAZA runs the webring for me, a task that frees up a great deal of my time to work on the newsletter and other things, rather than checking sites to make sure they contain the webring code snip.

Thanks again to all 4 of you for your help, I couldn't do the SubspaceLink without you.

New Year, New Volume, New Jobs available for SubspaceLink members

That said, I've opened up 2 more jobs for application for people who want to help out in the SubspaceLink, and here they are along with a description of what the person does and what the "perks" are. Both jobs are for the SubspaceLink's Starfleet Intelligence section and are under Admiral Scott, Chief of Starfleet Intelligence.

Starfleet Intelligence, Officer Opinion Polls.

I've had a poll up concerning what people's favorite episodes of Voyager are for some time now, and I neglected to check the suggestion list, on which I found a suggestion for Scorpion to be added to it's list. This officer will be given the password to the poll script and will be responsible for checking the suggestion list regularly and moving things from the suggestion list to the poll list, while first making sure that the suggestion is valid. This person will also be responsible to come up with new polls regularly and send me the statistics of the polls. The person who takes this position will receive a promotion to the rank of Captain, recognition on the SubspaceLink website, and an @SubspaceLink.com e-mail address forwarder to the e-mail address of his/her choice as well as poll@SubspaceLink.com e-mail forwarder as well

Starfleet Intelligence, Trek information collection.

I've been surfing the web looking at some "gossip" and debating if I should tell you all of them or not, because if they turn out to be false, I get the blame for giving you misinformation, oh the other hand, I've decided a gossip column would be an interesting addition to the SubspaceLink newsletter. The officer who takes this job will be promoted to Captain, and will be required to find out the latest of the latest "covertly gotten" information for the trek realm and compose a collumn of them each week along with urls to where more information can be gathered about it. This person will receive 2 e-mail forwarders to the e-mail address of his/her choice of gossip@SubspaceLink.com and <what you want>@SubspaceLink.com as well as the byline in the article each week.

If you are interested in either of these jobs send a message to employment@subspacelink.com with the following information so I can put you in the position:

Rank: [rank]
Name: [fname] [name]
e-mail: [email]
Why you want the position.

Thank you for your interest.
